Meet Mateo, a stunning 2-year-old male who came from an AKC greyhound breeder. He has a shy but endearing personality. He's cat tolerant and still learning to trust people, though he shows great potential. Mateo follows the lead of another greyhound in his foster home and wants to be near his human, though his timid nature sometimes causes him to back away. When he's comfortable, Mateo will approach on his own terms and sneak in gentle kisses on your hands—it's absolutely heartwarming. His curiosity toward the resident cats is met with calmness, as he shows no signs of aggression.
Mateo is looking for a home with an experienced dog owner who understands the needs of a shy dog and can help him continue to grow in confidence. A household with another confident dog would be ideal to guide him. Since Mateo enjoys being close to his human, a home where someone is around most of the time would make him feel safe and secure.
In just three (3) weeks with his foster family, Mateo has made impressive strides. He's now walking beautifully on a leash, discovering the fun of playing with toys, and even enjoying being petted. Mateo has become comfortable enough to "roach" in his dog bed—a sign he's starting to feel at ease in the home environment.
