The Greyt Tea
August 8th, 2004

If you weren’t able to make it to the Greyt Tea, you sure missed a fun time!

We had approximately 90 people and their greyhounds show up for the tea party
with several of the greyhounds dressed up for our Mad Hatter contest.

Along with the festivities of the Mad Hatter contest and auctions and raffles,
we had Robin Hunt, animal communicator talking to some of the greyhounds.
Needless to say Robin was a huge success.

Our winners of the various contests for this year’s tea party were as follows:

  Best Dressed Male Greyhound: Scooby
  Best Dressed Female Greyhound: Rose

Winner of the $500 Best Buy gift certificate: Rebecca May

And most importantly, the big winners were all the greyhounds in GU’s care since
we were able to raise over $2500 to help offset our vet expenses.

In addition, a big Ahrooooo (greyhound-speak for "Thank You") goes to all of
our volunteers who helped out at The Greyt Tea:

Janis Brown Jean Lynn
Steve Cobb Sherri Miller
Pat Dardenne Doug & Micky Nielsen
Cami DeVille Mary Ramsey
Helen Dunlop Jo Anne Sherlock
Pat Durrwachter Támi Sledge
Bonnie Fix Nan Stegall
Brad & Lourdes Graves Ruthanna Sweatman

Dog Treat Recipes

One of the most asked questions at the Greyt Tea was what recipes were used
to make the dog treats that were served.

Homemade dog treats are fun to make and healthier than many of the store-bought
versions so below are a couple of the recipes that were used along with links to others.

Bacon Flavored Doggie Treats

Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits

2-1/2 cups whole wheat flour • Combine flour, wheat germ, garlic and salt in a large bowl.
4 tbsp peanut butter • Cut in peanut butter and margarine.
1/4 cup wheat germ • Stir in beaten egg, molasses and milk.
1 tsp margarine • Add enough water so mixture can be shaped into a ball (cut into 2 balls of dough - it is more manageable).
1/4 cup milk (lactose reduced is best) • Roll dough onto a floured surface to a thickness of 1/8-1/4 inch.
1 tbsp molasses • Cut into shapes with your favorite cookie cutters (dog bone, fire hydrant, etc.) and place on a greased cookie sheet.
1 clove of garlic, crushed • Bake at 375 for 25 minutes and cool on a cooling rack. Bone' Appetite!
